Pirates Hideout - Screen 1

The Pirates Hideout is based within an abandoned mine. Since the mine ran dry, the miners eventually left leaving their community behind. Fortunately, all the structures left behind by the miners stood the test of time fairly well and could still be used when a certain pirate crew started living there.

This is the Pirates Hideout in the game engine (with all the shaders and post effects applied); it is also visible in the trailer (see my journal).

The crayon-esque effect doubles as a "depth of field" as well; the further away you get from the camera, the heavier the effect (which therefore makes it harder to make out). I tested it with an actual depth of field, but it looked rather silly so I decided not to.

This is the starting area; the player will start out near the flourescent mushrooms.
